PREMIUM LENS IMPLANTS

MULTIFOCAL VISION

There are different IOL options available for the treatment of both cataracts and presbyopia -- monofocal and multifocal lenses. Multifocal lenses are designed to provide patients who have a strong desire for greater independence from glasses or contacts with multifunctional vision.

ReSTOR Lens

ReSTOR New JerseyDr. Perl and the doctors at Corneal Associates uses the Restor Intraocular Lens Implant manufactured by leading eye care company Alcon Technologies.

Each lens implant must past a thorough examination by the US Food and Drug Administration before the lens can be used in a widespread cataract surgery. During the FDA clinical trial the AcrySof ReSTOR lens showed some excellent results. During these trials it was determined that out of the test cases 80% of patients were spectacle or glasses free after surgery. Not every IOL lens has been able to achieve this level of success. Despite this tremendous number of spectacle free patients it does not mean that this is the best lens implant option for you. Additionally over 94% of patients reported that they were so satisfied with the results that they would opt for the surgery again. The most impressive statistic from these FDA trials to many is that 94% of patients did not require glasses to read the newspaper or magazine. If reading vision has been a problem for you perhaps its time to investigate premium lens implants with a qualified ophthalmologist. The doctors at Corneal Associates will be able to verify if this lens is a good option after a review of your personal vision.

ReSTOR Lens New JerseyRestor Lens Technology

The AcrySof ReSTOR IOL uses a combination of three complementary technologies: apodization, diffraction and refraction, to allow patients to experience a full range of high quality vision without the need for reading glasses or bifocals. This range of vision without glasses is achieved through the optical properties of the IOL. Alcon Technologies has patented the application of apodization technology to an IOL, making the AcrySof ReSTOR lens the first and only apodized diffractive IOL.

WHAT IS THE CRYSTALENS?

Crystalens® is an FDA-approved intraocular lens for the visual correction of adults with cataracts (clouded lenses) with or without presbyopia, or lenses that have aged or become more rigid.
Crystalens® was modeled after the human eye. Like the natural lens, it uses the eye muscle to flex and accommodate in order to focus on objects in the environment at all distances. Crystalens® dynamically adjusts to your visual needs.

Crystalens® accommodating intraocular lens is made with hinges on each side that are designed to allow the optic, or the part of the lens that you see through, to move back and forth as you constantly change focus on images around you. Crystalens® is a small lens enabling it to flex or bend as you focus your vision.

crystalens

Crystalens® is:

  • The first and only FDA-approved accommodating intraocular lens
  • The only lens that uses the natural focusing ability of the eye
  • The only lens that provides a single focal point throughout a continuous range of vision from far to near, and everything in between

Few patients with Crystalens® have experienced glare, halos and night vision problems. Crystalens® focuses only one image to the back of the eye, unlike a multifocal lens that projects multiple images that are not entirely in focus, requiring your brain to "adjust" to the differences. In addition, Crystalens® vision is sharp and crisp because 100% of the light rays are available and distributed - when you need it.

The effectiveness of the Crystalens® was proven in clinical trials:

While we expect our patients to wear glasses part time for refinement, the following shows what many patients were able to see with Crystalens®:

  • 98.4% of patients implanted with Crystalens® in both eyes could pass a driver's test without glasses.
  • 100% could see intermediate (24" to 30") without glasses, the distance for most of life's activities.
  • 98.4% could see well enough to read the newspaper and the phone book without glasses.
  • Signicantly more patients implanted with a Crystalens®(88.4%) could see better at all distances than patients implanted with a standard IOL (35.9%).
  • Long-term experience means a safe and effective procedure - some patients have continued excellent vision 7 years after implantation with the Crystalens®. More than 100,000 Crystalens® have been implanted worldwide.

Resume Life with ReZoom™ Multifocal IOL

The ReZoom™ Multifocal Intraocular Lens (IOL) is designed to provide patients with multifunctional vision. The ReZoom™ lens not only treats cataracts, but it also turns back the clock to bring back much of your ability to see up close and at a distance. For many people who have worn glasses or contacts most of their lives, the ReZoom™ Multifocal lens can mean independence for the first time.

After surgery with traditional single vision monofocal lenses, most people experience very good vision at a single focal point -- either near or at a distance. In most cases, the monofocal lens provides good distance vision for driving, walking and some everyday activities. However, most people receiving single vision monofocal lenses require reading glasses or bifocals to have a full range of vision.

The ReZoom™ Multifocal Lens has a patented new design called Balanced View Optics™ Technology. This lens design creates multiple focal points so you can see well at a variety of distances, be it near, mid-distance, or far. In fact, in clinical studies, 92% of those who received the ReZoom™ Multifocal lens reported wearing glasses either "never" or "occasionally."

Five focusing zones for a full range of vision

The ReZoom™ Multifocal Lens has uniquely proportioned visual zones that provide it with its major advantage. Each ReZoom™ Multifocal Lens is divided into five different zones with each zone designed for different light and focal distances. Unlike other earlier multifocal lens designs, the ReZoom™ Multifocal Lens has proportioned the size of its zones to provide for good vision in a range of light conditions. For instance, some zones have been designed to offer greater low light/ distance vision support during night driving.

If you are diagnosed with cataracts and are experiencing one or more of the following issues, you may be a candidate for the ReZoom™ Multifocal lens:

  • Difficulty reading
  • Difficulty seeing close objects
  • Difficulty seeing to drive, especially at night
  • Changing glasses prescriptions
  • Needing bifocals
